Flights
of Fancy: A Brilliance of Birds
Guests
follow a trail of discovery through this exciting area designed especially for
families with young children that opened in summer 2012. Flights of Fancy
features exhibits with an encounters theme, including three new aviaries filled
with exotic birds (some you can feed), a new 4D theater, a children’s play area,
a “Nursing Moms Nest” with all the amenities, and an inspiring backyard habitat
for native birds.
Beginning in summer 2013, a real live “flamingo walk” featuring those most
beautiful of birds in a daily parade through Zoo grounds will delight surprised
zoogoers.
Just
some of the exotic specimens on display include white-cheeked turacos, superb
starlings, Southern ground hornbills, crested couas (left), Taveta weavers,
rainbow lorikeets, helmeted Guinea fowl, and red and black-capped lories.
Visitors should bring their cameras to record images of these beautiful birds!
